Show your support for Oregon’s only National Park by purchasing the NEWLY updated official Crater Lake National Park Plates directly from the Oregon DMV. The $30 surcharge supports Park Programs including the Crater Lake Science and Learning Center.
The new Crater Lake license plate is available through the Oregon DMV. New plates will be available September 9, 2022, but when you apply and where you apply for your new plate matters!
Here’s how to get your new Crater Lake plates:
- If you apply on or BEFORE September 8, 2022 in a DMV field office or online at DMV2U, you will receive the Centennial Crater Lake Plate.
- If you apply on or AFTER September 9, 2022 in a DMV field office or online at DMV2U, you will receive the New Crater Lake license plate.
Apply by mail or at a dealership when you purchase a new vehicle:
- If you apply by mail or at a dealership when you purchase a new vehicle, the plate design you receive will be based on when DMV processes your transaction. It is difficult to establish a cutover date for mailed or dealership transactions.
- The only way to guarantee that you will receive a Classic Crater Lake license plate is to apply in a DMV field office or online at DMV2Uon or before September 9, 2022.

The cost of a set of plates depends upon when and how a vehicle owner applies for a new set. Here are two common scenarios:
Plates ordered MORE THAN 120 days (4 months) before a vehicle’s stickers expire:
- Plate surcharge: $30
- Plate fee: $24.50 for the pair
- Plate replacement fee: $10
- Total: $64.50
Plates ordered WITHIN 120 days (4 months) before a vehicle’s stickers expire (will require payment of regular registration renewal fees):
- Plate surcharge: $30
- Plate fee: $24.50 for the pair
- Plate replacement fee: $5
- Registration renewal fees vary based on MPG. (Multnomah County residents add $112; Washington County residents add $60; Clackamas County residents add $60)
- Total: $59.50 plus registration fees

In addition to regular title, registration, and plate fees, the Crater Lake plate has a one -time surcharge at original issuance of $30.00.
Yes! Like other Oregon license plates, the Crater Lake plate my be customized for an additional DMV charge.
Yes, you will be able to maintain your current custom configuration on a Crater Lake plate for an additional DMV charge.
Sadly, no. Crater Lake license plates are only available with passenger vehicles registered in the State of Oregon. Souvenir or sample plates are not available.
Yes! Your current plate will remain valid for as long as you continue to renew registration. You do not need to replace your plate with the new design.
You can transfer the Centennial Crater Lake License Plate to another vehicle if you want. You will need to pay the plate transfer fee.
